The Bligh Memorandum

Comment

Anna Bligh will stand for election
as Queensland's Premier

Doug Cross, 26th February 2009

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh' has just announced that she is calling a General Election in Queensland in late March, six months early.

(Mr Brown - are you listening?)

Doug Cross, 26th February 2009

Anna Bligh has called for a General Election on March 21st, six months early, because she says that the financial situation there is so bad that she needs a clear mandate to put the necessary policies in place that could pull Queensland out of its economic crisis. The Queensland budget is in tatters, and the most recent update showed that the deficit will double next year, when economic growth is predicted to slow and 60,000 people could lose their jobs.

So, having incensed the public with her claim that people in Oz are too stupid to take their medicine, and admitting that she had consulted with chemical companies over adding pharmaceutical products to public water supplies, and then signing a personal guarantee on the safety of fluoridation, the lady is attracting quite a bit of media attention.

Since Anna had set such a sterling example with her pesonal guarantee over fluoridation, last week we suggested that those popular TV entertainers, Chief Dental Officer Barry Cockcroft or Peter Ward of the British Dental Association,

might like to give their own assurances that, like mercury vapour from amalgam tooth fillings, fluoride is indeed harmles.

We suggested that they might like to put their own houses and personal wealth on the line, as surety for the practice that they are trying to impose on the British public. And we challenged Prime Minister Brown (whom God preserve) of Cowdenbeath to issue a similar personal guarantee that, if things go wrong over the fluoridation project in Southampton, he will pick up the bill for cosmetic dentistry. (No takers so far, unfortunately!)

Now Ms Bligh has taken the next logical step and offered herself up for election by a sceptical public. Since she and Gordon have so much in common - neither was elected, both support fluoridation, and both are experiencing a little domestic difficulty over finances - perhaps Gordon might like to follow Anna into the polling booth in the near future. After all, it must be great to have the support of the public behind you when things get - aah - complicated?
