CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE -
You have rights, too!
Doug Cross, 9th March 2009
You do NOT have to accept forced medication -
so here's how to fight back.
Don't just grumble - tell the people who supply goods and services to you what fluoridation is going to mean to THEM!
Step 1 - preparing for action.
Although drinking water is a food, the official definition of 'water for consumption' is only that it has to be 'wholesome'. It is illegal to claim that any food has medicinal properties. Fluoridated water is described as having medicinal properties, so it cannot be a food - it is a medicine, and the term 'wholesome' does not apply to it. It is therefore not the product that the water company is required to supply you with, or one that you have contracted to buy.
Water companies are required to supply your home with water that is suitable for drinking, cooking and washing. You could reject fluoridated water entirely - not such a good idea, since you still need to wash your clothes, your car, or if you think this product is realy worth it, you can even flush your toilet with it! But remember - if you use
water for any of these purposes, then you must pay for whatever water you take. It's only drinking water that you are objecting to - well, I imagine that's the case - so follow the rules and you'll be OK!
So firstly, if you don't have one already, get the Water Company to fit a water meter to your home supply (free). This should slash your water bills immediately, anyway. Then pay for whatever the meter says you have used - that way the Water Company can't touch you.
And in preparation for the next step in rejecting this product, don't forget to cancel your Direct Debit payment agreement, so the Water Company will have to invoice you directly each time it wants your cash, and can't automatically deduct the whole amount from your bank account.
Step 2 - Telling the Water Company what you are prepared to accept
- and what you are not!.
The Health Authority may have the power to force the Water Company to make the stuff, but you don't have to drink it! You can't reasonably arrange an alternative supply for all your water uses, so pay for your non-consumptive' uses (washing, sanitation, etc), and demand that the Company either supply you with bottled (unfluoridated) water, or else inform them you will deduct the cost of buying it for your family. Or you can tell the Company that you will install and run a reverse osmosis filter unit, and deduct this from your water bill payments.
By writing to them, you establish that you do not consider the product to be of marketable quality (Technically, the product has an 'inherent fault' in its manufacture - Sale of Goods Act 1979 - it's a medicine but has no licence, and anyway it's not a foodstuff and is not what you contracted them to supply). If you deduct the cost of an alternative supply of drinking water, but the Company refuses to recognise that and tries to bully you into paying up, then you can ask for protection from the Courts, under the Unsolicited Goods Act.
Step 3. Why stop there?
The Water Company is 'piggy-in-the-middle' in this bust-up, so don't over-react. Just send it a letter stating that you regard their proposed product as 'unfit for purpose', and what you propose to do about arranging for an alternative drinking water supply. We have provided you with the appropriate letter, so just print it off, fill in your details, and post it to them. That way, everyone is clear where you stand on your rights as a consumer.
But there are plenty of other things that you can do to ram home your point. If the water supply is fluoridated, then you and your children will run the gauntlet wherever you go - we know, we've just been to fluoridated Ireland! So in hospitals, cafes, restaurants, hotels, and anywhere else selling prepared foods and drinks you run the risk of getting an unwelcome dose of fluoride.
And while you're at it - what about the Health Service and its many bits and pieces - the local dental surgery (do you
support fluoridation? Do you use tap water to cool your drill when you're filling teeth?), the hospital canteen and kitchens serving meals to in-patients.
So you can send some of the other letters that we have prepared for you, to wherever you normally drop in for a cup of coffee, an evening meal, or even some quick junk food at your local Colonel McChippy Fast-Food Take-away. Just let them know that you won't be using their facilities once fluoridation starts - nothing personal, you understand, and this is definitely NOT a threat - just putting my plans on the record.
Then there are the bottling factories in the City, the wholesale food processors, the super-market cafes, and so on. Sniff them out, and if they make or serve any consumable products, let them know that you disapprove and won't be using their products in future if fluoridation comes off.
Step 4 - Tell them what you are going to do.
Click on the following links to get a draft letter that you can download, print, fill in, and put in the post. You can't be prosecuted for informing someone of your proposed action, so don't be afraid to take some positive action. Remember - there are thousands of other people in the City who feel just as strongly about this as you do, and who are doing the same, right now. And if your neighbours, friends at the Gym, or other
arents waiting at the School, or any other acquaintance don't have access to these letters, or a computer, print off some extra copies (as many as you like!) and pass them round. Get as many people as possible to show that they will not allow the State to force them to drink this chemical - the Health Sector people are our servants, not our owners, and it's time to make that relationship perfectly clear and premanent.
